The thyroid is a very common problem but many people are not aware of having it |
Overview
The thyroid is a problem that mostly remains unnoticed and one may suffer from it but is not aware of it. The reason for this is that Thyroid disorder doesn't have a single symptom.
There is a small gland at the base of the front of your neck. This is butterfly-shaped and is situated just below Adam's apple. This gland is called the Thyroid gland.
The thyroid gland produces two types of hormones called triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4).
These hormones control the majority of the metabolic functions affecting the immune system of our body.
If the amount of hormones produced by the Thyroid gland is not appropriate, one suffers from a Thyroid problem.
The reasons behind thyroid problems are not exactly known but they may be due to a deficiency of nutrients and proper diet or stress.
In many cases, it is inherited from parents.
Types of the Thyroid problems
There are two types of Thyroid problems;
1. Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland is underactive and produces an insufficient amount of hormones.
2. Hyperthyroidism
